Monte Carlo Rally 1996

Monte wasn't this year in the group A World Rally Championship. It only counted in the F2 front-wheel-drive 2 litre championship for makes.

Patrick Bernardini, driving a gr. A Ford Escort Cosworth, took the lead in the early stages of the rally as Armin Schwarz had problems with the transmission of his Toyota Celica. Francois Delecour with the Peugeot 306 Maxi absolutely dominated the F2 category and finished second in front of Schwarz who had a major off during the last night of the rally.
